Hotels, Inns and B&B’s. Nantucket has more wonderful little inns per capita than any other place on earth. While some can be a bit on the basic side most are long on charm and romance. Here is the best of the bunch:

Shade at the Cliffside Beach Club
| |
| Beach chic to the max! The only hotel situated right on the sand. The Galley restaurant is right on the property for an added bonus! 9 rooms, 8 apartments and 1 cottage with prices ranging from $270 to $660. Reserve a year in advance! | |
|
SUMMER HOUSE 17 OCEAN AVENUE, SIASCONSET (508) 228-0877
| If you don’t mind being seven miles from the main town of Nantucket then this is your best bet for a romantic interlude! Everything you need is at your fingertips. The Hotel sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean and just below is the pool, beach bar and fabulous daytime restaurant. But all this romance and convenience comes at a price: $225 to $700 per night depending on the season. The Summer House also has a wonderful dinner only restaurant located next to the bungalows. It too is pricey, but well worth it. | |

WHITE ELEPHANT HOTEL EASTON AND WILLARD STREETS, NANTUCKET (800) 475-2637
| A full-service and truly elegant hotel that is located right on the harbor. Great views were recently "enhanced" when they removed the pool (huh?). A very dumb move when you consider the fact that they were one of the only hotels on the island with a pool. Wonders never cease. The cottages are nice but on the simple side. The Bar and restaurant are chic and relaxing spots to land for a while. Breakfasts buffets are sumptuous. Room and cottages range from $250 to $600. | |
|
THE JARED COFFIN HOUSE 29 BROAD STREET, NANTUCKET (800) 248- 2405
| The Jared Coffin House is a Nantucket landmark of sorts. It is in a great location, is a historic property and an excellent value. Room rates range from $150 to $250 and include full breakfast. | |
|
THE SUMMER HOUSE INNS IN TOWN 31 INDIA STREET, NANTUCKET 27 FAIR STREET, NANTUCKET (508) 228-0877
| These two new inns are recent additions to the downtown "Inn scene". They are owned and operated by the same charming couple (Peter and Danielle) that owns the Summer House in Siasconset. The inn at 31 India Street recently housed all the Hollywood VIP’s for the Nantucket film Festival including Ali Mcgraw. Yours truly was also a guest. The continental breakfasts are simple and delicious. The rooms are all hand painted with charming floral designs. The paint was still drying in June, but we are convinced that Peter and Danielle will have things in top order very soon. Room rates in high season average $300 per night. | |
|
THE WHARF COTTAGES NEW WHALE STREET, NANTUCKET (800) ISLANDS
| One, two and three bedroom cottages are in a prime location right on the harbor overlooking the marina and the boats. They all come with full kitchens and are just steps from Main Street and all the shops and restaurants in town. You can’t beat the location. Cottage rates start at $350. | |
|
THE PINEAPPLE INN 10 HUSSEY STREET, NANTUCKET (508) 228-9992
| Four poster beds, fireplaces, modern comforts all rolled into the historic charm of an old whaling captain’s house. Room rates range from $160 to $250. | |
|
UNION STREET INN SEVEN UNION STREET, NANTUCKET (508) 228-5116
|
Another romantic inn with canopy and four poster beds, fireplaces, and full breakfasts.
Open year round with room rates ranging from $140 to $245. |
