THE ROSE BAR AT THE DELANO HOTEL 1685 COLLINS AVE, SOUTH MIAMI BEACH 1-800-555-5001 | ||||||||||||||
| The lobby bar at the too cool for words Delano is a must for anyone looking to capture the essence of South Beach attitude. Sit at the tiny rose tinted bar or in one of the oversized chairs in the lobby area by the pool table and watch the parade of wannabe models, New York City weekenders and gawking tourists stroll by. The attractive, Lolita-esque waitresses are all dressed in white, of course, to match the high style Philippe Stark inspired white on white decor. It’s Alice-in-Wonderland meets an insane asylum for the rich and famous. There is an aura of drama and sensuality here that pervades and is unparalleled in all of Florida. This is see-and-be-seen of the first order. If it’s a nice night out, meander down the romantic pool path to have a drink at the "pool bar". Everything about the Delano’s public spaces says sex. The little open air cabanas lining the pool have played host to many a late night tryst, just don’t get caught by the night guard! | ||||||||||||||

THE BEEHIVE AT PENNRODS
|
On Monday nights only, Penrods, the beach side restaurant at the southern most tip of South Beach is converted into the play pen for the genetically special. In other words my darlings, it is the only place to be for the beautiful set from 11:30 till 4am. Locals actually rave about it. The hip outdoor tropical garden is the setting. This is the place to see and be seen so if you’re just in town for the weekend you may want to consider staying over till that 7 am flight Tuesday morning.

THE FALLABELLA BAR, ALBION HOTEL | 1650 JAMES AVE., SOUTH BEACH (305)531-4555
The Rubell family of Studio 54 fame is at it again, only this time it’s the sleek and sophisticated Albion Hotel. The buzz is that the chic Fallabella lobby bar is quickly becoming the preferred hang of the Miami entertainment industry execs from The Box, MTV Latino, Sony etc.. The locals like the out-of-the-way Lincoln Road location.

ASTOR PLACE BAR | HOTEL ASTOR 956 WASHINGTON AVE. , SOUTH MIAMI BEACH (305)672-7217
The Astor bar is a chic hangout catering to both locals and visitors alike. Rich woods, art deco chandeliers and a sophisticated, top notch restaurant keep the kiddies away and make it a regular part of most scenesters pre-dinner cocktail lounge routine. Note that "pre-dinner" in South Beach may occur as late as 10:00 PM since the night clubs don’t start to rock till midnight.
|
THE BAR AT JOIA | 150 COLLINS AVENUE SOUTH BEACH
The bar area here is small and fills up around ten or so. Thursdays and Fridays are packed with the beautiful set. As the night progresses, the restaurant becomes more free form as models and hipsters flit about the room kissing one another.

THE TIDES HOTEL | LOBBY BAR 1220 OCEAN DRIVE, SOUTH MIAMI BEACH (305)604-5181
The Tides Hotel opened after much anticipation last May. It is the newest and most hip addition to Chris Blackwell’s Island Outpost Hotel collection. There is always an interesting collection of gay and straight "international types" sipping on champagne cocktails, fitting in well with the brightly lit beach chic decor. Stop by late night for dessert and coffee, or an after dinner drink on the patio. Avoid dinner, the food is not as good as the view.
|
RED SQUARE | 411 WASHINGTON AVENUE, SOUTH BEACH (305)672-0200
Caviar and vodka are the highlights here...can’t go wrong. Cold Martini’s, hot crowd, and delicious morsels to soak up the buzz. Go late. Red Square is housed in the former Bar None Club location.

LOBBY BAR AT THE MARLIN HOTEL | 1200 COLLINS AVE., SOUTH BEACH (305)673-8770
Big time popular art deco bar and hotel hangout for the celebrity musician set and gay groupies. Check out both the front and back room lobby bar of the Marlin Hotel especially early evening or late night. This futuristic steel inspired decor was one of Chris Blackwell’s (Island Records) first South Beach successes - an institution of sorts. Blackwell was even smart enough to build a full scale recording studio on site...which explains the many famous musicians who hang at bar.
