	If you’re looking for the ultimate "style over substance" hotel-stay of your life, check on into The Standard. It’s Andre Balazs’ new & faboo, cheap & chic, party-on playpen….. Die-hard Trendoids….UNITE!! And they do in droves, whether it’s in the Barbarella-esque lobby, the too-cool-for-school diner or on the surrealist poolside grass patches. The employees are all actor/models for hire who were actually surprisingly unpretentious and bright (Patrick, you’re my man.) If you’re the type with a pastel color phone plate, you’ll look just the part (just be sure to speak VERY loudly, letting everyone in on how FABULOUS you really are). Just don’t count on good service, or ANY service for that matter. But, if you happen upon an unexpected "surprise" bobbing about in your toilet when you arrive, they will try to upgrade you. However, expect the boot from your room if there’s a last minute fashion shoot (8a.m. relocation for Debbie, HELLO!?! Believe it or not, this girl needs her beauty sleep!). And never mind the ant farm that’s taken residency in your mini-bar. They’ll promptly come and bomb the mothers upon your request. Now THAT’s service! P.S. Great stay for the party-hardy crowd who’s too trashed to care. Rates start @ $95 a night (if you book a millennium in advance), and average rooms for around $145-200 a night. BACK TO TOP

	"Beach Chic" or "Cape Cod meets California" might describe this heavenly haven. Frette sheets, jacuzzi tubs complete with candles to be lit, an ocean view pool deck, direct beach access and an airy sophistication make this the top stay for many low key entertainment industry types and East Coast finance wizards. The Peddles Café on the first floor sits right on the boardwalk with a small protected terrace ideal for "relaxed" power breakfasts and lunches. Grab an after dinner drink in the lobby by one of the fireplaces. Stay here if you’re on an expense account or feeling rich. Rooms start at $325 for non-ocean views and go up to $525 for a deluxe oceanfront. Well worth every penny. Rumor has it JFK, Jr. was spotted staying here. BACK TO TOP

	The pool is still a scene that you have to see to believe…cellular phones abound, pool cabanas for the truly special, a little café for poolside power lunching and lots of posers acting very very important. It’s so entertaining that it’s worth the price of a room ($320-$375) for the mere privilege of hanging out there. The hotel underwent a massive renovation a few years back thanks to David Geffen. The lobby is now more fabulously guady than ever. The Polo Lounge is still a hoot and star-sightings of the older variety are not uncommon. The famous bungalows can run you up to $3,300 a night. 	Phillipe Stark and Ian Schrager did it again. The power duo that brought you the ever fabulous Delano in Miami, the Paramount and the Royalton in New York converted the aging Modrian into the Delano of the West (funky, hip, too cool for words). The hotel’s primary draw is the sensual pool deck overhanging Los Angeles and the white hot Sky Bar which stands guard above the pool area (a Randy Gerber venue-You know, he married Cindy Crawford). Oversized mattresses/couches adorned by models decorate the deck during the late night hours. The Sky Bar torments the many wannabes who aren’t quite famous or beautiful enough to get in. (Word has it that it is now reserved exclusively for hotel guests, friends of guests or anyone claiming to be a distant relative or former girlfriend of Brad Pitt.)
